Magnolia Ballroom Dancers’ Association (“Magnolia” or “MBDA”) is a non-profit social dance organization which promotes ballroom dancing in Mississippi, including swing, latin and smooth dancing. It holds monthly dances in Jackson, Mississippi for the benefit of its members and guests. MBDA welcomes guests who are new to dancing, experienced dancers, out of town dancers and dance organizations. Approximately 80-100 dancers attend each dance, and there are over 150 members.

There is a dress code for all members and guests who attend our dances.

The monthly dances consist of recorded music from MBDA’s music library, which is played by a DJ on a stereo sound system. For special occasions such as National Ballroom Dancing Week, the dance has a live band. Usually one or more professional and/or dancers from local or out of town studios will perform a couples exhibition at each dance. The cost is $10 for members, $15 for guests over 21, $7 for those under 21..

Magnolia generally does not provide dance classes or workshops at its dances. Persons interested in beginning basic ballroom instruction are encouraged to contact the local dance studios for information about lessons and beginner classes. Occasionally Magnolia will bring an out of town instructor to a dance to teach intermediate workshops.

Most of the dancers at the Magnolia dances are able to dance the basic steps of one or more ballroom dances, and there is generally no “freestyle” dancing at our dances, because that would interfere with our dancers as they move around the dance floor. In addition, there are usually 2 mixers per dance which allow men and women participating in the mixer to be randomly matched with multiple partners throughout the mixer. There is also a Dance Etiquette that is appreciated by most dancers.

The dances are BYOB, but complimentary soft drinks, water, coffee and juice are served. Cups, ice buckets and ice are also provided.

Members receive a discounted admission price to the dances, a monthly newsletter by mail, and other membership benefits, including discounted workshop fees. Members of MBDA come from the Jackson Metro Area, but we also have members from all over Central Mississippi.

If you would like more information contact Nola.

We hope to see you soon at a Magnolia Dance!
